Willie was known and liked by many people. He lived a rough life, but he stayed the course with the hand of God on him. June 17, 1937, was the day God blessed the world with a good man.
Willie was born in South Carolina, growing up not knowing his parents. He fought to be the man he was today.
He worked on the railroad as a spiker; he also worked for the Royal Typewriter Company. He had many jobs to support himself.
Willie at time lived in a tent down on the CT River for some time. Later he was blessed with a home to call his own in East Hartford where he resided until his departure.
Willie didn’t have any birth relatives but he had many many friends. He met his special mate in 1979 and remained together.
Willie was known as the “Bicycle Man” because he was always riding many bikes, which he loved to do. He loved to hang out with friends on the corner in front of Sav-a-Lot store, better known as “the office”. He will truly be missed by everyone he greeted on a daily basis.
Willie was an avid Yankee fan, which also made him a good guy. Although he had departed, his presence is still with us.
He is survived by his beloved girlfriend & companion, Nancy Rosebury and dear close friend Jerome Wiggins and his wife Peggy, all of East Hartford, and countless friends and people he saw everyday.
Friends are invited to a period of visitation on Saturday, October 7, 2017 12pm-1pm with a Celebration of Life & Remembrance Service to follow immediately at 1pm, all to be held at Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford, CT 06108.
