William ""Bill"" Bernard Weingartner, 91, of East Hartford, loving husband of 67 years of Veronica (Collins) Weingartner, peacefully journeyed Home on Sunday, September 28, 2014 at the Manchester Manor. Born in Rockville on July 10, 1923, a son of the late George C. and Theresa (Quigmeyer) Weingartner, he had resided in East Hartford for most of his life. Bill was a proud decorated veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II and was a recipient of a Bronze Star and twice awarded the Purple Heart. He was a charter member, Past Commander, and a Trustee of the VFW Post #2083, East Hartford. Bill was an avid hunter and nature-lover and an accomplished builder who built his ""second"" home in Wilmington, VT along with remodeling other family homes. Prior to his retirement, Bill was employed for several years by Scully Machine in East Hartford as a machinist. A devout Catholic, Bill was a communicant of St. Rose Church, East Hartford. Bill was also a life-long loyal fan of the Boston Red Sox. Most of all, Bill was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved spending time with his family. Besides his parents, Bill was predeceased by a son, George Weingartner, a brother, George Weingartner, and a grandson, James Andrew Dagon all of East Hartford. Along with his beloved wife, Veronica, Bill is survived by three sons, William B. Weingartner, Jr. and his wife, Mary, of East Hartford, Wayne T. Weingartner and his wife, Judy, of Laguna Niguel, CA, Kevin J. Weingartner and his wife, Deborah Ann, of Coventry; two daughters, Maureen Theresa Dagon and her husband, Michael, of East Hartford, and Anne Marie Weingartner of East Hartford; a brother, Edward Weingartner of New Hampshire; a sister, Gloria Henkel-Magnusson of West Palm Beach, FL; twelve endeared grandchildren; ten adored great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Funeral service will be Friday (October 3rd) at 9 am from the D'Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 am at St. Rose Church, 33 Church Street, East Hartford. Burial with military honors will follow at Veteran's Memorial Field-Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford.
