William “Bill” D. Carpenter, 88, of East Hartford, loving husband of 62 years of the late Lorraine (Smith) Carpenter, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at John Dempsey Hospital/UConn Medical Center in Farmington. Born in Marlboro, MA on December 23, 1934, a son of the late Frank and Catherine (Stent) Carpenter, he had been a resident of East Hartford for the past 63 years. A carpenter by trade, Bill was a member of the Carpenter’s Union and worked many years at ACMAT. He later went to work at the American School for the Deaf in West Hartford and would retire from there after 25 years of dedicated service. Bill was a loyal fan of the UConn Women’s basketball program, New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox. He loved the outdoors and became an avid fisherman, hunter, and gardener. He was also a former member of the British American Club in Manchester. Most of all, Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who cherished his time spent with his entire family.
Bill is survived by three sons, William Carpenter, Jr. and his wife Deborah of Westbrook, Kevin Carpenter and his wife Joyce of Vernon, Christopher Carpenter and his wife Veronica of Manchester; two sisters, Virginia “Ginny” Bissell of Manchester, Sandra Dotson and her husband Denny of Kentucky; a daughter-in-law, Kassandra Carpenter of East Hartford; eight special grandchildren, Lauren Carpenter and her spouse Skylar, Lindsay Connors and her husband Michael, Frankie Carpenter and his significant other Rhiannon, Alyssa Carpenter and her spouse Jessica, Courtney Carpenter and her fiancé Robbie, Morgan Carpenter, Stacey Christian and her husband John, Paul Edinger; seven adored great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Besides his beloved wife and parents, Bill was predeceased by a son, Timothy Carpenter of East Hartford; a grandson, Luke Edinger of Glastonbury; and several siblings.
Bill’s family will receive relatives and friends on Friday morning (June 2, 2023) from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at the D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford. A graveside service will follow at Silver Lane Cemetery, (Section BB), East Hartford.
