Vincenzo Giambalvo, 86, of East Hartford, loving husband and best friend for over 56 years of Antonina (Governale) Giambalvo, peacefully entered into eternal life on Friday, January 13, 2023 at Hartford Hospital. Born in Santa Margherita Belice, province of Agrigento Sicily, Italy on March 31, 1936, a son of the late Giuseppe and Giuseppa (Calia) Giambalvo, he had been a resident of East Hartford for over the past 50 years. A devout catholic, Vincenzo was a faithful longtime communicant of St. Mary’s Church in East Hartford. Prior to his retirement Vincenzo was a hard working talented Mason for area construction companies. He was an avid gardener who took great pride in his vegetable gardens and yard. He loved to cook his sauce for Sunday family dinners, and was a man who cherished his time with his entire family, especially during his weekly trips to the beach on Sundays during the summer. Vincenzo was a true simple gentleman who was a proud caring husband, father, uncle, and friend to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed by all.
Along with his beloved wife, Vincenzo is survived by his devoted daughter who meant everything to him, Mirella Giambalvo and her husband, Michael Cardin, of Berlin; a brother, Stefano Giambalvo and his wife, Anna Maria, of Sicily, Italy; a dear sister-in-law and neighbor, Mariantonia Sequenzia of East Hartford; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Besides his parents, Vincenzo was predeceased by a brother, Nino Giambalvo of Sicily, Italy; two brothers-in-law, Mario Sequenzia of East Hartford, and Biagio “Gino” Governale of East Hartford.
Funeral service will be Saturday (January 28, 2023) at 9:30 am from the D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:30 am at St. Mary’s Church of North American Martyrs Parish, corner of Maplewood Avenue/Main Street, East Hartford. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Burnside Avenue, East Hartford. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel on Friday (January 27, 2023) from 4-7 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Vincenzo’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 111 Founders Plaza, 2nd Floor, East Hartford, CT 06108.
