Thomas “Tom” Robert Taylor, 76, of South Windsor and formerly of East Hartford, loving husband of over 52 years of Mary (Gasper) Taylor, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 2, 2022 after a brief illness. Born in Denver, CO on May 23, 1946, a son of the late Benjamin R. and Maude Lucille (Dennis) Taylor, he had been a resident of East Hartford for 30 years prior to moving to South Windsor 15 years ago. Tom was a proud U.S. Marine Corps veteran serving in Vietnam, San Diego, and the U.S. American Embassy as a Marine Guard in security at Rabat Morocco. He was a graduate of the University of Houston in 1975. Upon graduation, he moved to East Hartford and worked in the food industry until his retirement. Tom was a longtime member of the St. Valentine Social Club, a superb cook, host of parties, story and joke teller, and especially loved to entertain. Tom also loved American History, and the histories of the wars in which the United States participated in.
Along with his beloved wife Mary, Tom is survived by his daughter, Maribeth Cunha and her husband Todd of South Windsor; a brother, Tony Taylor and his wife Penny of Boise, ID; a sister, Sandra Sweet and her husband Dale of Boise, ID; two adored granddaughters, Leah Taylor Cunha and Madelyn Brooks Cunha both of South Windsor; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and wonderful friends.
Honoring Tom’s wishes, private funeral service and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Tom’s name may be made to the Amedisys Foundation, c/o Beacon Hospice, 111 Founders Plaza, Suite 1802, East Hartford, CT 06108.
