

Rosemarie M. “Rose” (Civitello) Jovino, 85, of East Hartford, loving wife for over 57 years of the late Carmine J. Jovino, Jr., peacefully passed away with family by her side on Sunday, April 6, 2025 at her home. Born in Hartford on February 6, 1940, a daughter of the late Paul and Josephine (Puglisi) Civitello, she had been a resident of East Harford for most of her life. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by First National Supermarket and Stop & Shop Supermarket for over 30 years as a cashier and clerk. Rose loved going to the area casinos and enjoyed playing cards at home with her family and friends. She was also a fan of the UConn Women’s basketball team. Most of all, Rose loved her home and was a devoted and proud wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who cherished her time with every family member.
Rose is survived by her six beloved children, Kim Weingart and her husband Jay of East Hartford, Kathy Pontarelli and her husband Ronald of Manchester, Diane Gerlach and her husband Gerry of Willimantic, Michael Jovino of Norwich, Jeffrey Jovino of Middletown, and Lawrence Jovino and his wife Laura of South Windsor; eleven special grandchildren, Jeremy Cowles and his wife Jen, Holly Parimore and her husband Nick, Matthew Stone and his wife Tiffany, Brandon Gerlach and his wife Cortney, Marissa Stone, Kelli Postemski and her husband Dan, Connor Gerlach, Amanda Jovino, Ryan Jovino, Aimee Coll and her husband Liam, and Jennifer Jovino and her fiancé Andrew Cunha; eleven adored great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Peggy French. Along with her beloved husband and parents, Rose was predeceased by a brother, Nicholas Civitello; and two sisters, Catherine Marci and Dorothy Green.
Honoring Rosemarie’s wishes, a private funeral service and burial at Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
