Rosa Luz Morales, 88, of Hartford, peacefully passed away surrounded by her loving family on Friday, March 15, 2024. Born in Comerio, Puerto Rico on August 31, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Maria Adelina Perez and Jose Morales Rosado. Rosa moved from Puerto Rico to Hartford, where she resided for the last 56 years while working and raising a family.
Rosa was a Social Worker for the State of Connecticut. She was a longtime member and Deacon of Crossroads Community Cathedral in East Hartford, CT; an active follower of Christ; her special saying was “Jesus loves you and I love you too”. It’s because of this love her legacy and memory will remain with her family and the many lives she touched.
She was also an active member in her community where she loved to garden and beautify the neighborhood. She became a member of Hartford Areas Rally Together (HART) and the Southside Institutions Neighborhood Alliance (SINA) where she coordinated park clean-up days and was affectionately known as “Miss Rosa”. She became one of the most well-known and well-respected activists in the city.
In 2018, she was selected for the prestigious Malta House of Care Clinic’s Wonder Women Class. Other recognitions include the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Maple Ave Revitalization Group 2017, Community Earth Day Award 2014, Hartford Blooms 2002, and SINA Neighborhood Service Award 1994.
Rosa was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her son Vicente Ithier and his wife Jacqueline; her daughter Brenda Morales De Munoz and her husband Eddy; and her daughter Katherine Kaiden and her husband Robert. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two brothers, two sisters, and is predeceased by six siblings.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Crossroads Community Cathedral, 1492 Silver Lane, East Hartford, CT with calling hours from 10:00 am - 11:00 am and a Celebration of Life Service from 11:00 am -12:00 pm. Burial will follow at Mount Saint Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield, CT (Section 12).
