He leaves his son Robert S. Young Jr. and a daughter Louise Young Rameika, son-in-law Robert K. Rameika, all of East Hartford: two grandchildren Bethany Rameika and her husband Erik Newton and Christen Rameika and her significant other Fernando Ortiz.
Robert was a proud U.S. Army Veteran serving in World War II. He was a Sergeant in the 508th Gun Battalion in New Guinea and the Philippines. He fought in the battles of Leyte Gulf and Port Moresby. After returning from the war both Shirley and Robert moved from Pennsylvania to East Hartford where he worked as a supervisor for Colt Firearms and then moving to Pratt & Whitney Aircraft as a maintenance supervisor and retiring in 1987. He was interested in and repaired antique radios and had quite a collection. He was a jack of all trades in that he could do just about anything he put his mind to – carpentry, electrical work, plumbing and car repair. He was also an excellent cook. Robert was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
Robert's family will be receiving relatives and friends on Wednesday August 18th , from 5-8 p.m. at the Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford. Burial with military honors will be on Friday August 20th at Fern Knoll Cemetery, in Dallas, PA.
