Robert K. “Butch” Acelin, age 80, of East Hartford passed away on Monday, August 1, 2016. Butch was the husband of the late Janet M. (Socha) Acelin until her death in 2003. Butch was born and raised in Willimantic, CT, moving to North Coventry when he was 16 where he resided until entering the United States Army. He joined the Army in 1955 and was a member of the 11th Airborne Division. Butch was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 14, Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge No. 1893, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2046 and a member of the Andover Sportsman Club. Butch was retired from the State of Connecticut. He leaves his family; son Kenneth L. Acelin and wife Bethanne of Manchester, son Raymond Acelin of East Hartford, and daughter Debra Ann Clancy and her husband Timothy of Tolland. He also leaves eight grandchildren; Jessica Brown, Emily, Kristopher , Kyle, Abby, Kellie and Kerrie Clancy and Taylor Acelin. He is also survived by great-grandchildren; Matthew, Kristin Lynn and Baby Brown and a step-great-granddaughter Amira. Butch also leaves two sisters; Rose Mendenhall and Janet Porter, as well as his daughter-in-law Beverly Acelin. Besides his parents and his wife, Robert was also predeceased by his son, Robert A. Acelin.
Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family on Thursday, August 4, 2016 from 4PM-6PM at the Newkirk and Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford, CT 06108.
