Rita M. August

Rita M. (Costa) August, 76, of East Hartford, died Friday, October 29, 2010 at home with family by her side. Born August 7, 1934 in Fall River, MA, Rita was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Domingoes) Costa, and was the beloved wife of George August. Rita worked for the U.S.Navy in Newport, RI as a Medical Secretary, where she was the proud recipient of the Navy ‘Well Done’ award, an extremely rare honor for a civilian. Rita later worked for the U.S. Social Security Administration in East Hartford as a secretary, and was a long time member of Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church. In addition to her husband, Rita is survived by a son Bruce August and his wife Dorene of East Hartford; a daughter Noreen Davis and her husband Greg of Westport, MA; 5 grandchildren Jesse, Josh, Jackie, Matthew, and Christopher; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Rita was pre-deceased by a brother and 2 sisters. Funeral Services will begin on Monday, November 1, 2010, 9:00am at the Newkirk and Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Avenue, East Hartford, followed at 10:00 am by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Peace Church, May Road, East Hartford. Burial will follow in St James Cemetery, Manchester. Calling Hours will be from 4-7pm Sunday, October 31 at the funeral home.
