Ramon Leonard “Ray” Lecours, 83 of East Windsor, loving husband of the late Diantha (May) Lecours, peacefully passed away, Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at Suffield House, surrounded by his loving family. Ray was born August 26, 1939 in Boston, MA. He was the adopted son of the late Aime and Anna Marie (Tanguay) Lecours. Ray resided in Connecticut for over 50 years, in East Hartford, Hartford, South Windsor, and East Windsor.
He was a graduate of Windsor Locks High School, Class of 1958, continuing his education at the Norwich Free Academy Art School, where at the request of the US Navy, his design logo of the shoulder patch of the diesel submarine, the USS Trout, was chosen as the official insignia until the boat’s decommissioning.
Ray began his work career in the hospitality industry, where he worked for Hilton Hotels, Hotel America, International Inn, DC, and Holiday Inns, becoming the manager of the Holiday Inn, Princeton, NJ. Ray changed his career path, spending over 40 years as a locksmith, earning the designation of Certified Registered Locksmith (CRL) in 1998. He was the co-owner of Ideal Safe and Lock, then owner of Connecticut Safe and Lock in West Hartford. Ray was a member of the Locksmith Association of Connecticut, serving on the Board of Directors and Parliamentarian for nine years; in addition to serving seven years as Secretary and Editor/Publisher of the “Keyhole” newsletter. He was the inventor and co-owner of one of the first high security electronic key entry systems, holding two US patents for the design.
Ray was a devout Catholic. A longtime member/communicant and usher at St. Mary Church, East Hartford. He also was a faithful member of the Sunday Breakfast Club at SAVVI’s, East Hartford.
Ray will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his adored family. A son and daughter-in-law, Marc and Alisa Lecours of Niantic; two daughters, Cydnae Michalak with her husband Robert, of South Windsor, and Alexis Lecours in New Orleans, LA; a brother and sister-in-law Norbert and Joan Lecours in Readsboro, VT. In addition, he leaves six adored grandchildren, Rick Lopes, Sean Lopes with his wife Brittany, Jeffrey Lecours with his life partner Jazmine Brown, Tyler Richardson, Katherine Lecours, and Xander Lecours. As well as four cherished great grandchildren, Sloane Lopes, Brantley Polonsky, Quinn Boice, and Aaliyah Trout. Along with his adopted parents, Ray was predeceased by a brother, Andrew Lecours.
Friends and family may pay their respects to the Lecours family, Saturday, April 15, 2023 from 9:15 – 10:15 a.m. at the D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter St., East Hartford. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. in St. Mary Church of North America Martyr Parish, 15 Maplewood Rd., East Hartford. Inurnment will follow the Mass in St. Mary Cemetery (Mausoleum), Burnside Ave., East Hartford.
At the family’s request, in lieu of flowers and that memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
