Pietro “Peter” Russo, 82, of East Hartford, beloved husband of 60 years of the late Josephine (Macchi) Russo, passed away peacefully with his caring family by his side on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. Born in Sicily, Italy on March 22, 1940, a son of the late Gaetano and Rosa (Abate) Russo, he had been a resident of East Hartford for most of his life. Prior to his retirement, Peter was a dedicated worker for over 33 years for the town of East Hartford, retiring from the street division. A devout Catholic, Peter was a faithful communicant of St. Rose Church, East Hartford and a longtime member of the Mt. Carmel-Saint Christina Society of East Hartford. Peter loved gardening, playing bocce, duckpin bowling, playing cards, and watching his New York Yankees.
Peter will be dearly missed by his two sons, Thomas Russo and his wife Jody of Vernon, Joseph Russo and his wife Velia of South Windsor; his beloved daughter, Rosa Marie Crispim of South Windsor; and his six cherished grandchildren, Brendon Russo and his fiancée Amber Caouette, Matthew Russo, Stephanie Russo and her fiancé Damon Piselli, Kristina Russo, Ashley Crispim, and Amanda Crispim. He also leaves his brother, Antonino “Tony” Russo and his wife Patricia of East Hartford; two sisters-in-law, Ada Russo of East Hartford, Caterina Macchi of East Hartford; one brother-in-law, Sam DiMaio of Myrtle Beach, SC; along with his many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Besides his loving wife and parents, Peter was predeceased by an infant daughter, Rosa Marie Russo of East Hartford; a granddaughter, Rebecca Crispim of South Windsor; his brother, Joseph Russo of East Hartford; a sister-in-law, Rosa DiMaio of Myrtle Beach, SC; two brothers-in-law, Calogero “Charles” Macchi of East Hartford, and Giuseppe Macchi of Italy.
Funeral service will be Saturday (October 1st) with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 am at St. Rose Church of North American Martyrs Parish, 33 Church Street, East Hartford. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery, (Section D), East Hartford. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church on Saturday morning. Peter’s family will receive relatives and friends on Friday (September 30th) from 4 – 7 pm at the D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Peter’s name may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
