Tolland, Connecticut. She maintained a cheery spirit that was admired by all. She resided
near her son, David B. Miller, and daughter-in-law, Linda L. Miller, after moving from South
Florida following the death of her beloved and long-time companion, Joseph Miller, in 2008.
Born on October 15, 1926, in Cleveland, Ohio, she was the daughter of Rose Eglin (formerly
Ruchia Resnik), who emigrated from Russia on December 21, 1912, and who married Jack
Eglin (formerly Jacob Yeglin) on December 25, 1925, who was also a Russian immigrant
and a former flutist in the Czar’s army band. May’s half-siblings included Florence Margolis
(with who she shared very close bonds until Flo’s death), Pearl Eglin, Sol Eglin, Henry Eglin,
Esther Eglin, and Edith Eglin, all of Cleveland, Ohio. Florence’s twin daughters, Eunice M.
Rose and recently-deceased Eudice M. Tracey, formerly professional singers under the
stage name, The Tracey Twins, have maintained particularly close bonds with May
throughout her life. The concept of “family” has been most important to May who has
remained in contact with her cousins Gayle Horowitz, Jill Nash Charlotte Nash
(predeceased), Warren Kurtz, Jeffrey Berger, Shelley Berger-Rhodes, and others, as well as
her extended family including Heidi Rose, Amy Silberman (deceased), and Andrew
Silberman. Additional to family, she always maintained the importance of friendship
throughout life, and, in recent years, that includes Louisa and Charles Blaich, “the ladies of
Juniper Hill,” a retirement facility in Storrs where she resided from 2008 to 2019, Elaine
Chague, and numerous Facebook friends.
Everyone she met admired her infectious cheery personality, which she maintained even
during difficult periods of her life, especially in the few years preceding her death when she
experienced total hearing loss. She enjoyed watching CNN throughout the day to keep up
with current events, and she loved soap operas (a joy she shared with her sister Florence),
singers from her era (such as Frank Sinatra and Barbra Streisand), and musicals. Music
always played a huge role in her life, as it did with many family members, especially
Florence, Eunice and Eudice, and David. As a child, David recalls how she was constantly
singing around the house.
