Maxine Assfalg Zmijewski, 71, of Tolland entered the Lord’s embrace on March 29, 2016 following a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of Richard Zmijewski since 1964. Maxine was born on June 20, 1944 in Hartford to the late Gertrude and Maxmillian Assfalg. She resided in East Hartford before settling in Tolland. Maxine was employed by Foxhill Nursing Center for over 30 years prior to her retirement in 2014. She enjoyed the beach and spent most of her time outdoors puttering. She will be most remembered for being a beloved wife, mother and Oma. In addition to her husband Richard, Maxine is survived by her two daughters, Deborah Schroeder and husband Peter of Hackettstown, New Jersey and Alicia Reiser and husband Mark of Lower Nazareth, Pennsylvania, a brother Robert of Jacksonville, Florida, a sister Victoria of Palm Coast, Florida and two cherished grandchildren, Logan and Tristan. She is also survived by many special nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law, as well as her dear friends at Foxhill Nursing Center.
Funeral Services will begin at 9am on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Newkirk and Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Avenue, East Hartford, CT 06108 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at St. Rose Church, 33 Church Street, East Hartford, CT 06108. Burial is private and at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 1, 2016 from 5-8pm at the funeral home.
