Marvin was born in Orange, New Jersey, son of the late Osborne and Jane (Smith) Wright, and had 13 siblings. He attended schools in East Orange, Newark, and Montclair, New Jersey.
Marvin proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. Following his service, he attended Hampton University where he studied Business. Marvin graduated from Hampton in 1972 and remained an active member of the alumni community, attending Homecoming events when he was able. He met the love of his life Lenore Sandra Sayres in Connecticut and settled to raise his family in East Hartford. Marvin was an active member of All Saints’ Episcopal Church, serving on the vestry for many years. He retired from Traveler’s Insurance Company after a long career as an Accountant.
Marvin enjoyed train travel, rooting for his favorite sports teams, watching Lester Holt on NBC, and connecting with family. He will be remembered for his easy going nature, friendly sense of humor, and trademark fist bumps.
In addition to his wife Lenore, Marvin is survived by his children: Renee (Wright) Urciuoli and her husband Michael of Pennsylvania, and Kevin Wright and his wife Rosita of New York; grandchildren, Michael Joseph Urciuoli, Kayden Robert Urciuoli and Suvi Marie Chase Wright. He also leaves his sisters Muriel Hargwood and Barbara (David) Smith, both of New Jersey, and brother Charles (Mary) Wright of North Carolina, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and life-long friends. He was predeceased by siblings Geraldine Frazier, Betty Onque, Dolores Frazier, Juanita Carpenter, Arthur, Robert, William, Richard, Roosevelt, and Roger Wright.
Calling hours will be held on October 17th from 4pm-7pm at Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford, CT. A Celebration of Life will be held on October 18th at 11:00am at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 444 Hills St., East Hartford. Burial will follow at Silver Lane Cemetery at 1312 Silver Lane, East Hartford, CT. A repast will follow at All Saints’ Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to All Saints’ Episcopal Church.
