Lena was born in Gloucester, Mass. on January 21, 1919, the daughter of Simone Sclafani and Maria DiLeo. She grew up in Boston and especially enjoyed her years at Boston's School of Practical Arts with her lifelong friend Pauline Castanino
She was the loving wife of Lucian Rizza. Lee and Lu were married on June 27, 1943 and celebrated 74 years of married life. They moved to Manchester in 1949, and raised their family there. Lena was a homemaker and loved caring for her family and her home. She was an expert seamstress, enjoyed gardening, knitting and reading. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Lena is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Joyce and David Trainer of Manchester, her daughter-in-law Janine Daigle Rizza and her husband Donald Bourgoin also of Manchester, her grandchildren John Rogers and his wife Marianne Freschlin of Lebanon, Alana Rizza of Groton, Brendan and Sonny Rizza of Gorham Maine, Angela(Rizza) and her husband Jason Chapman of South Windsor and Steven Rizza of Manchester. She was the great grandmother to Linnea and James Mather of Groton, Hailey Chapman and Arianna and Alexis Rizza. She is also survived by her sister Gussie Marinelli of Hampton, NH and her sisters-in-law Ann and Carmela Sclafani, several nieces, nephews , great nieces great nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her sons Frank and Robert Rizza, brothers Pat, Anthony, Michael and Roy Sclafani and her sister Lillian Vitale and her sister-in law Lucy Rizza DiLeo.

Friends and family are invited to gather for a brief period of visitation on Tuesday, February 20th, 2018 at 9:30am at the Glastonbury Funeral Home, 450 New London Tnpk. Glastonbury, CT 06033. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11am at The Church of the Assumption, 29 South Adams St. Manchester. Burial will conclude services in St. James Cemetery, Manchester.
