Joan (Yacavone) Rohde, 81, of Greenville, SC, formerly of Glastonbury and Rocky Hill, passed away peacefully on Tuesday (April 23, 2013) at her home. Joan was the loving wife of 57 years to the late William T. Rohde. Born in Hartford on March 7, 1932, a daughter of the late Joseph A. and Catherine (Prentiss) Yacavone, she had resided in Glastonbury for 47 years and Rocky Hill for eight years. Joan was employed for many years by Jefferson X-Ray Group in Hartford and spent her last fifteen years of her working career as a Travel Agent in the area. She and her late husband, William, enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and the world and loved spending many winters down in Vero Beach, FL. Joan and William were also active with the Knights of Columbus in Glastonbury and several groups down in Vero Beach. Joan was an avid reader (staying up many nights to finish a book) and gardener of various flowers. Most of all, Joan was an individual who loved her chocolate, cooking, preparing and hosting holidays for her family and friends. Joan is survived by her three children, Carole Lagerberg and her husband, Scott, of Derry, NH, Mary Beth Rohde and her husband, Jim Impastato, of Vero Beach, FL, Billy Rohde and his wife, Sue, of Prosperity, SC; and two granddaughters, Kathryn Nesbeth and her husband, Jerome, of Lawrence, MA, and Morgan Lagerberg of Derry, NH. She also leaves a brother, John P. Yacavone and his wife, Susan, of Plainfield, NH; a sister, Donna M. Fitzgerald of Newington; special friends, Jim and Noreen Black of Glastonbury; several nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Funeral services will be Monday April 29 at 9:45 a.m. from the D'ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church, Cambridge Drive, East Hartford. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, (Section H), Burnside Avenue, East Hartford. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel on Sunday afternoon, April 28, from 2-5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Joan's name may be made to a favorite charity of the donor's choice .
