Janice Christensen Arbuckle

Janice Christensen Arbuckle of East Hartford, widow of Archibald A. Arbuckle, died July 29, 2015. Born in East Hartford, daughter of the late Thomas and Ethel Smith Christensen, she lived in East Hartford all of her life. Prior to her retirement she worked 8 years at The Hartford Insurance Company before moving on to become Executive Secretary, Office Manager of the Northeastern System Federation, Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees for 32 years.

She was a faithful member of the First Congregational Church of East Hartford, where she served as Deaconess, church school teacher, member of the Board of Missions and the Board of Stewardship. She was also a member of the Ladies Guild and the Business & Professional Woman’s Group where she held the office of Secretary Treasurer and President. She was the Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee and also served as Church Historian for more than thirty years. She was also a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for several years in the East Hartford area.

Mrs. Arbuckle is survived by two beloved brothers, Gail Christensen and Ronald Christensen and his wife Loretta and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and two brothers, Rae E. and Arleigh M. Christensen.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2015, at 10:00AM, at the First Congregational Church of East Hartford, 837 Main Street. Burial will follow in Center Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Scholarship Fund of First Congregational Church, 837 Main Street, East Hartford, 06108.
