Irene (McKenna) Cone, 85, of East Hartford, beloved wife for 40 years of the late Roy A. Cone, Jr. passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. Born in Hartford on February 24, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Elvira (Godar) McKenna. Irene worked for Public Access TV in East Hartford for many years, serving as a Board Member. She also worked in the East Hartford school system as a librarian. She was a member of the East Hartford Woman’s Club and the Historical Society. She also was a recipient of the Paul Harris from East Hartford Rotary Club and was also honored as the Grand Marshall representing the Town of East Hartford at the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Irene will be forever missed by her two sons, Philip Cone and daughter-in-law, Roxanne of Glastonbury and Stephen Cone of Naugatuck; six adored grandchildren, Christopher, Tabitha and husband Isaac Long and Stephanie, all of Naugatuck, Maegan and husband Jon Kiger of East Hartford, and Brittany and Roy, both of Glastonbury and three cherished great-grandchildren, Gisella, Amayah and Carina, all of Naugatuck. She is also survived by her sister, Bette and husband Larry LaPenta of East Hartford; special cousins, Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Godar and many other cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 10 a.m. at St. Christopher Church campus of St. Edmund Campion Parish, 538 Brewer Street, East Hartford. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church on Saturday morning. Burial will follow in St. Augustine Cemetery, Glastonbury. Irene’s family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, November 10, 2017 from 4-7 p.m. at the D’Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street East Hartford.
