Harrison Mayer Hastings, 25, went to be with the Lord on April 28, 2022. He leaves behind his loving parents Brian and Trish Hastings, his older brother Andrew and his wife Audra, his younger brother Colin, and his maternal grandmother Constance Mayer. Harrison also leaves his maternal aunts and uncles, Theresa and Philip Desmarais, Linda and M. Joseph Flaherty, godparents Cynthia and John Palazzo, paternal aunts and uncles Sheila and Paul Chicoine and Jodi and Steve Kessler, along with many cousins and friends near and far. His impact on this world will forever be remembered, and his presence will always be sorely missed.
All his life, Harrison was the Hastings family’s nature lover. As a young child, he was always hiking in the woods, playing in his treehouse, or spending his summers working at the Hastings Farm in Somers, CT. His passions and hobbies followed him into adulthood where he eventually became an avid sportsman and conservationist. He was always happiest out hunting in the fields with his dogs or fishing on his motorboat. Not only did he enjoy the great outdoors, but he also took great pride in and had respect for what he brought home from his adventures. He could always be found cooking, smoking, storing, and enjoying meals made from his prized fish and game.
Harrison grew up attending Catholic schools. While at East Catholic High School, he found a true passion for theology, history, and philosophy, and he developed a love for Greek, Hebrew, and Latin. He was a lifelong learner. He enjoyed researching, reading, and engaging in deep, thoughtful conversations. He had an incredible work ethic and fearlessly stood up for his beliefs.
Most importantly, he was a kind, caring, and humble soul. He was the person who shoveled walkways for the elderly, gave employees a ride to and from work, and volunteered at church. To know him was to love him, and he will forever be loved and missed dearly by all.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Saint Marianne Cope Parish (formerly Saint Catherine Church), 6 Windsorville Road, Broad Brook, CT on Thursday, May 5, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. Everyone is asked to meet directly at church, and please note that masks are required inside. Harrison’s family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the D’Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford, CT.
