Gerard Raymond Pedneault, 85, of East Hampton, passed away on Tuesday, September 13, 2022. He leaves behind his wife, Dorothy, a love story that lasted 58 years. Gerard is survived by his son, Mark Pedneault of Chicago, Illinois, his son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Kimberly Pedneault of Manchester, and his daughter and son-in-law, Stephen and Gail Lataille of Glastonbury. He was the world’s best grandfather to Justin (and his fiancé Ashley) and Evan Pedneault, Hana and Molly Lataille, and Joseph Pedneault. He had the beloved title of great-grandfather to the newest member of the family, Emily. He leaves behind his brother and wife, Louis and Judy Pedneault of Manchester as well as four brothers currently residing in Canada (Jean Roch, Gaston, Jacques, and Thomas). He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
Gerard was born to the late Alfonse and Alma Pedneault of Notre Dame du Lac, PQ Canada. He was born on a large family farm and worked beside his dad and brothers until the age of 24 when he decided to venture to the United States. He found work as a laborer for a local construction company and was introduced to the love of his life, Dorothy. In his early years in the United States, Gerard learned to speak English, served in the U.S. military, and became a United States citizen.
Throughout his career in the construction industry, he worked his way up to operating engineer (a.k.a. heavy equipment operator extraordinaire), a job he held for over 50 years until his retirement. Not being one to sit still, he joined a regional CPA firm as a courier and maintained this part-time job for over 10 years. When he finally decided to officially “retire”, he focused his life on his family and friends.
Gerard was an active member in the Glastonbury Knights of Columbus. He loved volunteering at the annual Tootsie Roll Drive, making pretzels at Rentschler Field for football games, handling ticket sales at the Hebron Harvest Fair, and spending time with his lifelong friends.
Burial arrangements will be private at the discretion of his family. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation in Gerard’s memory to Riverfront Recapture at riverfront.org. This organization was special to Gerard and Dorothy as they spent many days picnicking by the river. The D’Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford, has been entrusted with the arrangements. To share a memory of Gerard with his family, please visit www.desopoeh.com.
