Edwin “Ed” M. Arnheim, 90, of East Hartford, loving husband of 38 years of Barbara Belle (Bastian) Arnheim, peacefully passed away on Friday (December 28, 2018) at the Riverside Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in East Hartford.
Born in Los Angeles, CA, on January 26, 1928, the son of the late William and Estelle (Mendelsohn) Arnheim, he had been a resident of Vernon for many years prior to moving to East Hartford in 1993. Ed was a veteran of the U.S. Navy at the conclusion of WWII, and proudly received a WWII Victory Medal. Prior to his retirement, Ed spent his entire career at MeadWestvaco in Enfield where he was a printing machinist. After his retirement, Ed enjoyed working part-time as a driver for Paul Buettner Florist in the East Hartford/Vernon area.
He was an avid bowler for over 60 years participating in several area leagues. He loved listening to jazz music of the 1940’s/1950’s and he attended many live concerts at the Hartford Jazz Society in Bloomfield and the Jazz Club of Hartford. He also enjoyed traveling around the world and taking many cruises with his wife.
Ed is survived by his beloved wife Barbara and her two daughters, Kathy Labrencis of Vernon and Karen Layman and her husband, Richard, of Coventry and their children Nathan and Ryan Layman; two step-daughters, Beth Beauchamp and her husband, John, of Vermont and Kim Provencher of Enfield, and her children, Jaclyn and Jeremy Provencher, and many dear friends.
Funeral service will be Thursday (January 3, 2019) at 2 pm at the D’ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 carter Street, East Hartford. Burial with military honors will follow at Silver Lane Cemetery-Veterans Memorial Field #2, East Hartford. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel on Thursday afternoon from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm.
