Edward L. “PePa” Freeman, 85, of East Hartford, loving husband of 62 years of Corinne (Poulin) Freeman, peacefully entered into God’s hands on Monday, November 6, 2023. Born in Hartford on February 24, 1938 he had been a resident of East Hartford for the past 52 years. Edward was a graduate of Holy Trinity High School in Hartford, class of 1955. Edward was a hardworking man who started his work career at the former Connecticut Bank & Trust Company (CBT) in their Mailroom. He later worked as a Computer Programmer for many years before leaving as a Vice President of Programming after 34 years at CBT. After CBT, he worked at Konica in Windsor where he retired after ten years of dedicated service.
A devout catholic, Edward was a faithful longtime communicant of St. Christopher Church in East Hartford. A sociable person, he loved visiting with people in his neighborhood, on his daily walks, and having a beverage on Friday evenings at a local sports bar. He liked golfing, gardening, watering his plants and caring for his yard, and was an animal lover, especially dogs. An avid reader, he would often go to the Book Barn in Mystic and hand out books to others. He was a die-hard fan of the Green Bay Packers who would often be seen wearing the green and gold colors. He was a talented baker who liked baking brownies and cookies and bringing them to others to enjoy. Most of all, Edward was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who cherished his time with his entire family.
In addition to his beloved wife, Edward is survived by a son, Joseph Edward Freeman and his wife Barbara of Meriden; a daughter, Mary Freeman Anderson and her husband Scott of Middlefield; two special grandsons, Alexander Flynn of East Harford, Jordan Bushnell and his significant other, Olivia Pezzello, of Meriden; and two adored great-grandchildren, Rosie Flynn and Troy Bushnell. He also leaves two brothers-in-law, Michael Poulin and his wife Trish of West Harford, Maurice Poulin and his wife Judy of Canterbury; three sisters-in-law, Lorraine LeClaire of Dayville, Rose Marie Chicoine and her husband Roger of Amston, Sandra Keating and her husband David of Canton; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. He was predeceased by a sister, Theresa “Tyke” Eldert of Greenwich.
Funeral service will be Friday (November 10) with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 am at St. Christopher Church of St. Edmund Campion Parish, 538 Brewer Street, East Hartford. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hebron Avenue, Glastonbury. The family has asked that everyone please go directly to the church on Friday morning. Edward’s family will receive relatives and friends at the D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford on Thursday (November 9) from 4 – 7 pm.
