Edith “Edie” (McGough) Sisk, 84, of East Longmeadow, MA and formerly of East Hartford, loving wife of 65 years to Francis J. “Frank” Sisk, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at Baystate Medical Center, Springfield, MA. Born in Hartford on May 29, 1939, a daughter of the late Howard E. and Edith (Braasch) McGough, she had been a resident of East Hartford for 60 years prior to moving to East Longmeadow, MA one year ago. Edie was a graduate of East Hartford High School, class of 1957.
Prior to her retirement, Edie was a Secretary for over 20 years at Travelers Insurance Company, Hartford. After her retirement from Travelers, she went to work for several years at Hamilton Standard in Windsor Locks. She loved giving back to the community and was a volunteer for many years at the East Hartford Food Shelter. She liked bowling, playing cards, baking, knitting, and was proud of her Irish heritage. Edie was a former communicant of St. Christopher Church, East Hartford. Most of all, Edie was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, who cherished her time spent with her entire family.
In addition to her beloved husband, Edie is survived by a son, James F. Sisk and his significant other, Shana Gendreau, of Westfield, MA; a daughter, Debbie Lilu of Virginia Beach, VA; seven grandchildren, Kayla Sisk of Rocky Hill, Michael Sisk of Boston, MA, Steven Sisk of Coventry, Kyleigh Rae Sisk, Amanda Rose Sisk, Alexa Leigh Sisk all of Tolland, and Shelby Lilu of Virginia Beach, VA. She also leaves a sister, Mary Jarrell of Lafayette, LA; a brother-in-law, Edward Sisk of Florida; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Besides her parents she was predeceased by a son, Brian H. Sisk of Tolland; a brother, Howard E. McGough, Jr. of East Hartford; two sisters, Joan Fluherty of South Windsor and Ailene Joyce McGough of East Hartford.
Honoring Edith’s wishes, private funeral service and burial at Silver Lane Cemetery in East Hartford will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Edith’s name may be made to a favorite charity of the donor’s choice.
