Deborah Dodge Wood of South Windsor died peacefully on November 20, 2021 from the effects of Parkinson’s disease. A native of Portland, ME, Debby attended the Waynflete School, Mt. Holyoke College, and earned a Master’s degree from Radcliffe College. She worked for many years in the office at South Congregational Church of East Hartford and as Director of the church’s cooperative nursery school. She was active in the church community as well, serving in many roles on church committees. She was a long-time member and Past President of the East Hartford Woman’s Club, served on the board of the Raymond Library and was active in many other community organizations. A long-time resident of East Hartford, she had then lived in Glastonbury for several years before recently moving to South Windsor with her husband of 61 years, Robert, who predeceased her in July. She enjoyed socializing with a wide circle of friends and traveling far and wide. She also enjoyed reading mysteries, regular bridge games with friends (dating back many decades), and taking long walks with Bob. They spent many summers at Moose Pond in Bridgton, ME, boating, mountain climbing, and welcoming friends and family. She was a devoted grandmother and always a proud supporter of the various academic, athletic and artistic activities of her grandchildren.
Born August 9, 1938, the daughter of the late Archibald M. and Alice (Mackay) Dodge, she is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy Wood and Kate Stover of Philadelphia, PA, Stephen and Ping Wood of Glastonbury, CT; grandchildren, Lydia Wood of Chicago, IL, Henry Wood of Philadelphia, PA, Jocelyn Wood and Annabel Wood both of Glastonbury, CT; as well as cousins, nieces, nephews, dear friends, and her devoted caregivers, especially Janet Denizac. She was also predeceased by her sister Margaret Smith of Litchfield, CT, and her half-sister Harriet Allen of New Port Richey, FL.
A memorial service will be held at a later date and time to be announced in 2022 when everyone can gather safely.
