Carolyn (Griggs) Piro, 89, of Manchester and formerly of East Hartford, loving wife of forty years of Nicholas Piro, peacefully journeyed home to join her husband on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at the Manchester Rehabilitation Center. Born in Nashville, TN on August 25, 1934, a daughter of the late Maurice and Margaret (Fields) Griggs, she had been a resident of East Hartford for over thirty years. A devout catholic, she was a former communicant of St. Christopher Church, East Hartford. Carolyn was a proud home maker who took great pride in cleaning and maintaining her home. She liked gardening and was a talented cook who enjoyed cooking Sunday dinners with her fresh vegetables for her entire family to enjoy, and liked going to area antique shops and shows with her husband. Carolyn loved dogs and animals, solving crossword puzzles and word searches, and was a fan of basketball, especially the UConn Women’s team.
Carolyn is survived by her two devoted sons, Nicholas Piro and his wife Donna of Manchester, James Piro and his wife Linda of Newington; four cherished grandchildren, Gina Goldstein and her husband Gerson of Farmington, Justin Piro and his wife Erin of Boston, MA, Michael Proia of Vermont, Andrew Piro and his wife Lauren of West Hartford; four adored great-grandchildren, Sloan and Colton Piro, Max and Mora Piro; and a son-in-law, Roy Proia and his wife Kit of Framingham, MA. Along with her beloved husband and parents, Carolyn was predeceased by a daughter, Lisa Proia of East Hartford; a brother, Maurice Griggs of Nashville, TN; two sisters, Fafi Elizer and May Griggs both of Nashville, TN.
Funeral service will be Tuesday (September 12th) at 9:30 am from the D’Esopo East Harford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11 am at St. Christopher Church of St. Edmund Campion Parish, 538 Brewer Street, East Hartford. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery Veteran’s Memorial Field #3, East Hartford. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Carolyn’s name may be made to ASPCA, P.O.
