Carol Ann Daries (86) of Ellington, CT and resident of Woodlake of Tolland, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, July 18, 2021. Carol was born on February 27, 1935 to Eugene and Lillian (McGarvey) Pearson in Portland, ME. Carol received a Catholic education in Portland, and was awarded a diploma from Sacred Heart School on June 12, 1949. Carol also played softball and tennis while attending school in Portland. Some of her education took place in Charleston, SC; Great Lakes Naval Training Center; as well as Connecticut and other locations as the family traveled with her father who was in the service. Her father was a huge Jazz enthusiast/columnist and while on assignment in Newport, RI the family attended the Jazz Festival where Carol met many of the early jazz figures as they visited in her home. Most of Carol’s summers were spent in Oquassac, ME on Rangeley Lake, which was home to her grandmother. Carol would assist with housekeeping work at the Rangeley Lake Hotel. Carol’s mother was the chef at the hotel as well. There were a few summers that Carol spent with her aunt in Boston, where her uncle held season’s tickets to the Red Sox games. She attended many games and that led to her increased passion for the team. However, the Boston Globe could always look forward to the many letters she wrote them expressing her opinion. Carol married Harold (Hap) Daries in January 1960 and the good years of family began. When the family had grown to five children, old enough to be left in her husband’s hands, Carol worked evenings at CBT shift proofing checks. Still in East Hartford, a move to a new house on Ferncrest Drive and all the children in school, Carol went to work at the Aircraft Credit Union where she was known as the lady who sold the savings bond and a VERY STRONG RED SOX FAN. A life filled with love and school activities…baseball, basketball, youth football, cheerleading and all of the girls dancing lessons and shows. Summer vacations with the backyard pool (a “must have” for mother Carol) and frequent trips to the beach, including a week enjoying the air, surf and Merry Go Round at Watch Hill, RI. Sadly three of Carol’s children passed before her. Kelly was lost to brain cancer at the age of 15 (1977); Eugene (Happy) to an auto accident at 28 (1989); and Bill to cancer at 57(2013). Carol was a devoted mother and wife, who did all she could for her family. She was always delighted by the regular celebrations of life, and “Happy Birthday” became a theme song…it marked another family gathering! Following a stroke in May, 2015 Carol was confined to a wheel chair/bed at Woodlake at Tolland, where she was able to be mostly happy. The loving care of so many of Woodlake’s staff made such a difference in Carol’s life, as did the friendship of other residents. In addition to her husband Harold, Carol is survived by two of her five children Susan Riley and her partner Thomas Perrone of Ellington and Kathleen Levesque and her husband Philip of Enfield. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren Ryan Riley and his wife Charlotte, of Enfield, Brendan Riley, of East Haddam, Cara Riley of Tolland, Christopher Daries and his wife Tara of South Windsor, Kelly Schub and her husband Scott of Enfield, Shannon Daries of Woburn, MA and many great grandchildren, all of whom were the pride and joy of her life.. She is also survived by her two daughters in law, Michele Daries of Vernon, and Sandra Daries of Lancaster, MA. Services for Carol will be held at Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Route 5, East Hartford, CT on Tuesday, August 31 at 10:00 am, followed by a grave site ceremony at Hillside Cemetery in East Hartford, CT. There will be no calling hours. Benjamin J Callahan Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave, East Hartford has been entrusted with arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the Jimmy Fund/Dana Farber Institute. For an online memorial, please visit www.CallahanFuneral.com
