Bernard “Bernie” I. Welch, 85, of East Hampton CT, loving husband of 62 years of Janet (Jarvis) Welch, passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2023. Born in Bath, NH on September 10, 1937, a son of the late Freeman C. and Effie E. (Green) Welch, he had been a resident and supporter of East Hartford for many years, most recently living in East Hampton.
Bernie was a veteran of the US Army and the proud owner of Bernie’s Roofing and the Welch Roofing Companies of East Hartford. He loved the Boston Red Sox, playing cribbage and Duckpin bowling. He was a lifelong member of Loyal Order of Moose and the Elks. He camped for many years at Indianfield Campground in Salem, CT where they made many friends. Bernie loved working with his son Scott and was cherished by their many customers. He was always ready to help who ever needed him and his family meant everything.
In addition to his parents, eleven brothers, three sisters, and his beloved daughter, Jeanette (Welch) Murphy of East Hampton, predeceased Bernie.
Along with his wife Janet, Bernie is survived by his daughter, Brenda Evans, her husband David and grandson Seth of Independence, KS, his son Scott Welch, his wife Rhonda, grandchildren Jake and Cameron Welch of Glastonbury, CT and Alexandra Welch of Newport, RI. Also his “daughter” Denise Hornbecker, her husband Robert of Gainesville, GA and their sons as well as two sisters, Shirley Fadden and Ruth Bomeig of NH. Bernie will also be remembered by many special in-laws, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Bernie’s incredible life will be held on Monday March 20, 2023 at 11 am at D'Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford, CT. Burial with military honors will follow at Veteran’s Memorial Field-Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel on Monday morning from 10 – 11 am.
