

Barbara Anne Povinelli died on December 24, 2023. She was born in Astoria, New York on July 5, 1941. She lived in East Hartford, Connecticut since her marriage on June 27, 1964. She is survived by her husband, of over 59 years and best friend forever, Valentine Jr. and their two beloved sons, Valentine III of Williamsburg, Virginia and Michael of East Hartford, Connecticut.
Barbara received an Associate Degree in Medical Assistant on June 11, 1963 from Carnegie College and was working in a Doctor’s Office in Woodside, New York prior to her marriage. Barbara was a stay-at-home mom until her boys were both in High School. She started her secretarial career in 1984 and retired in 1999 from Fuss & O’Neill Consulting Engineers in Manchester after 12 years as secretary to the CEO and the Human Resources Manager.
She enjoyed Jeopardy, her bi-monthly bridge games, working at the South Congregational/St Christopher Food Bank. Additionally her favorite activities were live theater, baseball games, movies, travel around the US and abroad, shopping and celebrating the holidays with family and friends. She was blessed with a loving family as well as many good friends. Barbara was predeceased by her parents Anna (Revel) Cervini and Dominick J. Cervini. Unfortunately she suffered most of her adult life from the outwardly invisible debilitating illnesses of Fibromyalgia and Scleroderma.
She was a communicant of St. Christopher Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at St. Christopher Church of St. Edmond Campion Parish, 538 Brewer Street, East Hartford at 11:00 AM. Family and friends may call at the D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 from 4:00 - 6:00 PM or on Thursday, January 4, 2024 from 9:15-10:30 AM, before the funeral mass at 11:00 AM at St. Christopher Church.
Inurnment will be at Mount St. Benedict Cemetery Mausoleum in Bloomfield, Connecticut at the convenience of the family. Barbara requested that in lieu of flowers a memorial contribution may be made to help the St. Christopher/South Congregational Food Bank, 538 Brewer Street, East Hartford, Connecticut 06118.
