Arthur P. Martin, 79, of East Hartford, beloved husband of the recently deceased Dora (St Germaine) Martin, died peacefully Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at home, with family by his side. Born on August 20, 1936 in St Basile, New Brunswick, Canada, he was the son of the late Pierre and Laura (Cyr) Martin.
Art was a communicant of St Isaac Jogues Church as well as a 30-year member of the Knights of Columbus. He loved gardening and family gatherings, and was a devoted fan of the Montreal Canadiens (Les Habs) and the UCONN Lady Huskies basketball team. Art began his working career at Hydro Quebec before moving to Connecticut, where he worked for Chandler-Evans Corp in West Hartford and Coca Cola Bottling Co in East Hartford prior to his retirement. Art’s family would like to thank Hartford Healthcare Hospice for the care and support provided to the family, and especially the wonderful care given to Art by Eve.
Art is survived by his children Steven and Kelley Martin of Windsor Locks, Deborah and Douglas Calano of East Granby; grandchildren Laura, Brian and Julie Martin, and Emily and Sarah Calano; sisters Corinne Chasse of St David, ME, Jeanne Beaudet of Quebec, Laurette Martin of St Basile, NB; brothers Rudolphe and Jeanine Martin of Madawaska, ME, Carmel and Pauline Martin of West Hartford, CT, Donald and Rolande Martin of Edmundston, NB, and Berthier and Martine Martin of St Joseph, NB; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
In addition to his parents and beloved wife Dora, he was predeceased by siblings Rita Fleury, Rino Martin, Rena Conkling, Guy Martin and Alphee’ Martin.
Visitation for Art will be from 6-8pm on Friday, November 20, 2015 at the Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Avenue, East Hartford. Funeral Services will begin on Saturday, November 21, 2015, 9am at the funeral home, followed at 10am by a Mass of Christian Burial at St Isaac Jogues RC Church, 1 Community Street, East Hartford. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, East Hartford.
