Anthony “Tony” Iafrate, 59, of Chester, loving husband of Vicki (Riggle) Iafrate, peacefully journeyed Home surrounded by his caring family on Monday, July 20, 2020 at Hartford Hospital after an acute brief illness. Born in Jamaica, NY on November 15, 1960, a son of the late Arcangelo and Rosina Iafrate, he had been a resident of Stamford for most of his life. Tony was a graduate of Hofstra University in Uniondale, NY where he earned a B.S. Degree in Economics and went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Economics from Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, NY.
Tony was employed for Gen Re Insurance in Stamford for 27 years as an Actuary and presently was the Chief Product Officer for Middle and Large Commercial at The Hartford Insurance Group in Hartford. He was a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS), and was a member of the American Academy of Actuaries. Tony enjoyed riding his motorcycle, gardening, and watching soccer, especially his favorite team, Roma of the Serie A in the Italian League. Proud of his Italian heritage, Tony loved cooking Italian dishes for his family and friends to enjoy, along with Korean short ribs. He also liked traveling with his wife, Vicki, especially to Italy where he spoke Italian with everyone.
In addition to his beloved wife Vicki, Tony is survived by four sons, Daniel Iafrate of Norwalk, Skyler Iafrate of West Hartford, Mathew Iafrate of Niantic, Michael Iafrate of Norwalk; a daughter, Autumn Iafrate of Chester; two step-daughters, Jessica Primm and her husband, Brandon, of Alaska, Emily Steele of Columbus, OH; and his grandson, Mason Primm of Alaska. He also leaves his sister, Diane Iafrate of Franklin Square, Long Island, NY; his mother-in-law, Marge Riggle of Millersburg, OH; three sisters-in-law, Michelle Rodhe and her husband, Kurt, of Ohio, Debbie Aten of Charlotte, NC, Jodi Cain and her husband, Del, of Canton, OH; loving relatives in Italy; several other relatives, co-workers, and dear friends.
A Memorial Celebration of Life honoring Tony will be Friday, July 24, 2020 at Liam E. McGee Park on the campus of The Hartford, Frazier Place entrance, Hartford beginning at 9:15 am. Private burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a contribution to the Actuarial Science Program at Columbia University, a program very near to Tony’s heart.
