He was born July 30th, 1924 in Hartford, to the late James and Emma Cardello Curcio. Tony grew up in Hartford, living on Front Street and moved to Bloomfield at the age of 16. He was a resident of East Hartford for the past 62 years.
Tony joined the Army June 8th 1943, served in the 95th infantry Division and was assigned to the 3rd Army under General Patton. After being wounded, he was stationed in Laon, France where he met his loving wife, Marie Mennechet Curcio who he leaves behind after recently celebrating their 68th wedding anniversary.
After returning from the war in 1946, Tony worked for a short time as a vacuum sales and repairman. He then worked side by side with his wife running a dry cleaners business in Hartford. His sales career continued for State Motor Parts for over 20 years followed by over 25 years at Acme Auto Parts from which he retired at the age of 75. He was a talented musician. After attending school for drums Tony began playing professionally in 1947 in bands such as the Stardusters and Tempo 4 and played with the Landerman Agency for over 40 years – most notably at the Cloud Nine Lounge at Bradley Airport and with the Dixieland band playing at the Rendevous Room in the Hotel America in Downtown Hartford. His music career spanned 5 decades.
In addition to his wife Marie, he is survived by his daughters, Suzanne Vaughn of Ellington and Michele Riley and her husband, Douglas of Ellington; his sister, Marion Serdechny and her husband Al of East Hartford; his 5 grandchildren: Marie Yarborough, Jeremy Joslin, Shannon Riley, Sean Riley & Shea Riley and 6 great-grandchildren; Bree and Elle Yarborough, Alex, Melissa, Logan and Jett Joslin.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Anne Marie.
Calling Hours will be Friday, September 27th from 4:00 – 7:00 at the Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Avenue East Hartford, CT 06109.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, September 28th, at 10:00, at St. Isaac Jogues Church , 1 Community Street, East Hartford, friends are asked to gather at the church. Burial with full Military Honors will follow in Silver Lane Cemetery,1312 Silver Lane, East Hartford, CT.
