Robert C. Newton of Elma, a retired production electrician for Niagara Machine and Tool Works, died Sunday in Hospice Buffalo, Cheektowaga. He was 77.
Born in Buffalo, he was a graduate of Iroquois Central High School. He served in the Army Reserves from 1956 to 1964 and was stationed in Fort Lee, Va. He was employed by Niagara Machine and Tool Works for 32 years, until his retirement in 1999.
Mr. Newton served as Elma town historian for 12 years and was a lifetime member of the Elma Conservation Club. He also was a life member of the National Rifle Association who enjoyed hunting, fishing and trap shooting. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Elma and was a member of the Jamison Road Volunteer Fire Company for 10 years.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, the former Jean Metzler; four sons, Robert C. II and Mark, Christopher Michaels and Timothy Michaels; two daughters, Cheryl Marsillo and Carolyn Grizer; and two brothers, Merle and John.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Wood Funeral Home, 784 Main St., East Aurora.
