Daniel Floyd of East Aurora passed peacefully on February 10th.
Daniel Zoller Floyd lived in East Aurora most of his life. He graduated from EAHS in 1981 and then graduated from RIT with a degree in Hotel Management. He was in the commercial food industry for a number of years and then switched to telecommunications. Dan was a founding partner of Hover Networks starting in 2009 and a driving force behind the company’s success. His Hover Networks family will forever treasure his humor, intelligence, friendship and enduring optimism.
Dan had a unique energy and big personality that made everyone want to hang out with him. He had a special talent for charming all those who had the pleasure of meeting him with his authenticity, compassion, and famous sense of humor. Friends, family, and colleagues will remember his unending repertoire of jokes that he somehow stored in his memory, as well as his animal and bird sounds that he’d use to add joy and fun to any and all situations. He was a great singer- He was known to join a band on stage occasionally to belt one out, and knew all the theme songs from old shows. He was always on the go, loving sports, especially tennis and
golf. He was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards and games. He made friendships that started in grade school up through college that stayed strong all these years.
Dan married Debora Meatyard in 1988 and had 2 children, Steven and Kimberly. Steven and his wife Abby Tsai moved to EA from abroad in 2020 and Dan became a grandfather for the first time to David Charles born on 12/20/20. Kim and her partner Morgan Roussel recently moved back from Hawaii in 2021. Dan was thrilled to be surrounded by his children again.
About six months ago Dan defied the odds and survived a massive stroke and finally made it back home recently. He was in a great frame of mind to get back as much independence as possible and was making great progress on walking and gaining his strength. His children and their partners were amazing as were his steadfast friends, family and coworkers who all supported these efforts as it sometimes takes a village.
He passed quietly in his sleep February 10th at the age of 59. He was predeceased by his father, David K. Floyd. He is survived by his mother Anne Z. Floyd, 4 siblings Susan and Ken Floyd, Ellen Svenson (Rich) and Sarah Floyd, his 2 children Steven Floyd (Abby Tsai) and Kimberly Floyd (Morgan Roussel), grandson David Charles Floyd, 5 nieces and nephews, 3 great-nieces and nephews and former wife Debora Meatyard Dee.
He will be sorely missed for the warmth, humor and gregariousness he added to our lives. His love of sports and music were the essence of his life, secondary only to the love of his family and friends. He brought an unmatched light to this world and words cannot describe how deeply he will be missed by all those who knew and loved him. Plans for a celebration of his life will be announced at a later date.
