Matthew was born in Buffalo, NY on June 29, 1927, to Matthew X. Wagner, Sr. and Marie K. Schaus. The family moved to Kenmore. He attended St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1945 and served aboard the U.S.S. Juneau CL-119. Following the war he continued his studies at Canisius College and the attended U.B. Law School. After graduation and passing the Erie County Bar exam, he joined his father’s practice in the Crosby Building. In 1957 they formed a partnership. They later moved the offices to the B.A.C.
In 1954 Matthew married the former Paula Claire Moore. They moved to Amherst in 1957. He enjoyed spending his summers at the family cottage in Angola, NY. He was a lifetime member of the Amherst Central Lions Club and past president of the Buffalo Eye Bank and Veteran of WWII. He was Team Member of the 1948 football team inducted into the Canisius College Athletic Hall of Fame.
Besides his wife, Matthew is survived by 4 children. Linda (Stephen) Litwin, Matthew X. (Kathleen Jernigan) Wagner III, Mark (Barbara Griffin) Wagner, and Peter (Mary Beth Burns) Wagner. Dear grandfather of Jillian (Nicholas) Mislin, Rachel Litwin, Emily (Conner) Drew, Sarah Wagner, Matthew X.Wagner IV, Timothy Wagner and the late Ryan Wagner. Great grandfather of 4 great grandchildren. Brother of the late Joan Manning-Bianchi.
