Retired SFC Vernon H. House Jr., 73, of Wade, died Saturday, September 3, 2022 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro. Mr. House was born in Sampson County, April 1, 1949, the son of the late Irma Stewart Warren and Vernon Hoover House Sr.
Mr. House was a graduate of Clement High School. He was a 27 year veteran of the U.S. Army and N.C. National Guard. He enjoyed watching western movies and Nascar races and he loved classic cars. He also loved sitting outside watching cardinals and bluebirds, and he loved his two dogs Missey and Buddie, who had a very special place in his heart.
Mr. House is survived by his wife Janet Nunnery House; his son Vernon Scott House (wife Kelly) of Kissimmee, Florida; his daughter Christy House Tyndall (Michael) of Godwin, NC; his step-daughters Jaclyn Stapleton and Melissa Taylor-Owens (husband Jimmy); his step-son: Randy Autry; 5 grandchildren, 9 step-grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
Mr. House also leaves behind his brothers David Warren (wife Connie) of St. Pauls, NC and Clarence “Luck” Warren (wife Shirley) of St. Pauls, NC; his sisters Hilda Knowles (husband David) of Autryville, NC
and Gilda McLean (husband Ron) of Autryville, NC; his half-sister Mary Locklear of Hope Mills, NC; his mother-in-law Jewel Nunnery; his brother-in-law Larry Nunnery; his sister-in-law Jill Goulet; and
several nieces and nephews.

A visitation for family and friends for Vernon will be held Thursday, September 8, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Cromartie-Miller Funeral Home, 401 W Cumberland St, Dunn, North Carolina 28334. The funeral service will occur Friday, September 9, 2022 at 1:00 PM at South River Community Church, 6540 Goldsboro Rd., Wade, NC with a burial to follow at Williams Cemetery.
