A native of Harnett County, NC born on Wednesday, August 18, 1943, to the late Melvin Samuel Dodson and Naomi Hall.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandmother Tera Royal Hall and step-father Warren Lee
Red was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather, and a friend to many. He was a hardworking man putting his family needs first. If anyone needed a helping hand, he was there. He was a man of few words but was a heck of a storyteller. A very intelligent thoughtful man with a heart of gold. Melvin was a true comedian, loved to make people laugh.
Melvin’s family was most important to his life. Assisting his grandchildren with projects was important to him. Calling his brother was always important to him; they talked very frequently.
He was an impeccable artist always proudly sharing his talent. Melvin loved fishing and attending gun shows. He loved animals of any nature always ready to rescue one.
Melvin was a proud American that loved his country.
Survivors: His loving wife of 57 years Linda Sue Jones Dodson; a daughter, Barbara Dodson Waters and her husband Eddie; a son Andy Dodson, of Four Oaks, NC; three grandchildren, Robbie Paskiewicz, III, of Knoxville, TN, Greg Paskiewicz, of Knoxville, TN, and Laura Waters, of Dunn, NC; four great grandchildren: Merideth Paskiewicz, of Sidney, OH, Grace Paskiewicz, of Sidney, OH, Osias Paskiewicz, of Ava, MO and Sylar Paskiewicz of Knoxville TN.

Family and friends will gather on Thursday, February 16, 2023 from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 a.m. at Cromartie Funeral Home.
Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel.
Burial will immediately follow at Devotional Gardens.
