Martha Sue was born in Sampson County on March 5, 1940, to the late Oscar and Sudie Bass Tew. She was born in the home where she lived her entire life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gene R. Faircloth, Sr.; her sister, Debra Faye Tew Warren; her nephew, Adam Reid Warren; her son, Gene R. Faircloth, Jr.; and many friends and family members whom she dearly loved.
She is survived by her brother, Douglas Franklin Tew and wife, Mary, of Dunn, NC; three nephews: Eric B. Tew and wife, Gina, of Dunn, NC; Bradley O. Tew and wife, Jennie, of Pikeville, NC; and Daniel W. Warren of Clayton, NC; four great-nephews: Carson Tew, Wesley Tew, Marshall Tew, and Westin Warren; and one great-niece, Elizabeth Gayle Tew; her brother-in-law, David Warren; and a special aunt, Eloise Tew Duncan.
Her two daughters also survive her: Patty Faircloth Ellis and husband, Richard, of Grovetown, GA; and Ginger Faircloth Bass and husband, Charles, of Dunn, NC; daughter-in-law, Marie Faircloth of Erwin, NC; six grandchildren: Gene R. Faircloth, III of Coats, NC; Johnny Faircloth of Coats, NC; Shawna Woodward and husband, Benjamin, of Evans, GA; Richard Ellis and wife, Sarah, of Grovetown, GA; Molly Bass Devereaux and husband, Justin, of Dunn, NC; and Michael Bass and wife, Shannon, of Fuquay-Varina, NC; eleven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Martha Sue graduated from Mingo High School in 1958, where she had perfect attendance for all twelve years. She also attended Mount Olive College, now known as the University of Mount Olive. She worked at Lundy Packing Company for almost two years before starting her career at Carolina Telephone Co. in Fayetteville, NC, on April 30, 1962. She retired from Carolina Telephone on January 31, 1992, in Clinton, NC. She then worked at Morganite in Dunn, NC, for one year and later worked at the cafeteria of Midway Elementary, Midway Middle, and Midway High School, where she enjoyed serving the children.
Martha Sue was a devoted member of Robert’s Grove OFWB Church. She accepted Jesus Christ at a young age and loved her church dearly. She was very active in her church, serving in many roles, including teaching the Beginners Sunday School Class, leading the Cherubs, teaching in Bible School, and serving as church treasurer, among many other committees. She read her Bible in its entirety many times and had a deep love for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a faithful Christian whose motto was, “God is so good!” She shared this with everyone she met. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She was truly one of a kind and made a lasting impact in the world for God’s glory. She often said, “Heaven will be beautiful. No more pain, heartaches, or tears.” She looked forward to meeting you there.
A service celebrating Martha Sue’s life will be held at Robert’s Grove OFWB Church on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., with Reverend Dr. Ricky Warren, Reverend David Charles Hansley, and Ann Raynor Barefoot, a dear friend, officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service.
