She was born on Dec. 14, 1937, in Wade, NC, the daughter of Leslie and Irene (Mitchell) Phillips.
Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Talton L. Reaves (WWII veteran), her parents, Leslie and Irene Phillips, her brother Garfield Phillips, and her sisters Helen McCorquodale and Margaret Taylor.
Survivors include her daughter Jamie Kirkley (Sonny Kirkley), grandchildren Gianna Kirkley and Harrison Kirkley, all from Bloomington, Indiana; her sister, Wanda Phillips Culbreth; her niece Whitney Culbreth and nephew Ryan Culbreth, all from Niceville, FL. She leaves behind many loved ones and long-time friends who held a special place in her heart.
The family is grateful to Aunt Wanda Culbreth for her love and many years of dedicated care she provided to Linda. We also express our appreciation for Vitas Hospice nurses.
Linda's family will remember her as a strong and independent woman who loved her family, friends, and dog, Roxie. She was a mother, grandmother, and a substitute teacher with Cumberland County Schools. She attended Central High School and earned an Associate's Degree in Art from Fayetteville Technical Community College, where she enjoyed making pottery and writing poetry. She grew up attending Bethany Church of God in Stedman, NC.
Linda was a passionate gardener who knew the Latin names of many plants. Her beautiful flowers won several blue ribbons at the Cumberland County Fair. She also loved and wrote poetry. She was one of five women to read poetry at the 2012 Creative Aging Festival in Bloomington, IN.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 14, 2024, at 11 am at Cromartie-Miller Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 12:15 at the historic Old Bluff Cemetery. The family will host a reception from 1 to 3 at the Cromartie-Miller Reception Room.
