Leroy Jackson, age 68 of 8760 Hawkins Road, Linden, NC, departed this life on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at his home. He was born September 21, 1949 in Erwin, North Carolina to the late James Henry Jackson, Sr. and the late Mary Elizabeth Hawkins Jackson. He is also preceded in death by his son, Rodney Dewayne Young; brother: James Henry Jackson, Jr.; and three sisters: Lena Frances Jackson, Mary Alice Wilson and Lois Irene Yeoman.
Leroy was a true fisherman. If he wasn't fishing, he was visiting with his family or his buddies, talking about fishing. Whenever he was asked "How'd you do today?" He would always respond "Pretty good, got a snuff box full of big ones and a few little ones." However, when asked "How'd Doris do?" He'd say "Well, she caught them ice cream fish, they melted before she got them in the boat." Doris was the love of his life. They met over 38 years ago and were wed on January 8, 1983. Together they owned and operated the Linden Oil Company and the Icee Hut at the IGA in Erwin. Leroy certainly loved his family, and the greatest times of his life is when you combine family with fishing, especially deep sea fishing in Panama City, even when Timmy got sea sick that one time. Leroy was a proud husband, father and grandfather. Leroy wasn't one to sit still, if he wasn't out visiting or fishing, you could find him in his garden, tending to his vegetables. When the evening came and the sun began to set, Leroy would be in his favorite chair, stretched out watching Gunsmoke or Cold Case Files, that is unless there was a game being televised. It really didn't matter what sport: tennis, football, baseball, or basketball, he loved them all! Leroy was a simple man. When some people go out to dinner, they require cloth napkins and fancy tablecloths, but not Leroy, just give him a bean burrito or a Mexican pizza from Taco Bell and he was a happy man. Why, he loved Taco Bell so much, when him and Doris lived in Florida he would eat there four days a week. He was a proud Pine Forest High School, Class of 1967 Alumni. Most of all he loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Praise Fellowship Church of God in Fayetteville. His sudden passing will leave a void that no one can fill.
Leroy leaves behind to honor his legacy his loving wife of 35 years, Doris Jean Young Jackson; two sons: William Timothy Jackson of Atlanta, Georgia and Stephen Daniel Jackson and wife Dana of Fayetteville, North Carolina; one daughter: Kimberly Rose Hair and husband Waymon of Linden, North Carolina; nine grandchildren: Ashley Martin, Taylor Heinz, Mary Young, Liam Young, Jonathan Jackson, Brayden Young, Olivia Young, Kasey Hair, and Dylan Hair; seven great-grandchildren: Cyara Jefferson, Ryleigh Martin, Andrew Martin, Jailynn Martin, Marlee-Jean Martin, Ethan Hair and Aidyn Hair, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
