Joyce Marie Grimes

Joyce (Reeves) Grimes, known by her many friends as a straight forward, quick-witted, fun loving and trusted friend, passed away at Transitions Hospice House, Raleigh, on Wednesday, September 6, 2023. She was 86 years old.

Mrs. Grimes, born in Baltimore, MD, grew up in Franklin County and Portsmouth, VA. She moved to Florida in 1962 where she worked for Lockheed, McDonald and Grumman Aerospace at the Kennedy Space Center. She retired as a Transmission-Distribution Supervisor for Florida Power and Light Company, Merritt Island, after 24 years.

She is survived by two siblings: Glenn Coleman of Lillington, NC, and Irma Duke of Angier, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother and stepfather, Ruby and Irma Coleman; and her father, David Butler; three husbands: Vernon Bailey, Clifford Reeves and Walt Grimes; and three siblings: Shelton Butler, Jan Heslar and Richard Coleman; and three stepbrothers and sisters: WJ Coleman, Dorine McCoy, and Norine Stone.

She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Merritt Island, where she was involved in Sunday School, Women's Ministry and Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Ministry. In recent years, she was a member of Neill's Creek Baptist Church, Angier, NC, and Angier Senior Citizens Club.

Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, September 16, at Neill's Creek Baptist Church at 1 pm, followed by a memorial service at 2 pm.
