J.P. was born on May 13, 1940 to the late William Martin and Iona Overbee Blackman in Johnston County, NC. He was also preceded in death by his brothers; Roger Daryl Blackman and William “Earl” Blackman; one sister, Patricia (Jean) Blackman Watson.
James is survived by his wife, Virginia Marion Blackman; daughters, Pat Burnette King and Phyllis Burnette Jenkins; son Dennis (deceased) and wife Betty Burnette; grandchildren, Bert Jenkins, Bridgette Jenkins, David (Barbie) Burnette, Kim Burnette (Ryke) Citty, Kelly Gentry and Jennifer McCann; great-grandchildren, May Magyar, Lydia Magyar, Victoria Magyar, Cohen Burnette, Lauson Burnette, Rylan Citty and Noah Gentry; sisters, Doris Blackman (Robin) Godwin and Judy Blackman Grimes; brothers, Stacy Blackman “Bobby” Harold Ray (Dianne) Blackman and Wayne (Sarah) Blackman; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
James was a United States Army Veteran, he also enjoyed spending time hunting, fishing and gardening.
The family will receive friends and family on Saturday, June 22 2024 from 12:00pm-12:50 pm at Cromartie-Miller Funerals and Cremations. The Celebration of J.P's life will follow in the chapel at 1:00pm with graveside military honors rendering at Harnett Devotional Gardens.
