Frederick Barnard Poindexter August 26, 1955 - April 28, 2015 Frederick Barnard Poindexter, 59, died peacefully on April 28, 2015 at Duke Regional Hospital in Durham, NC due to complications of pneumonia. He was born August 26, 1955 in Charlotte, NC. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert L. and Eddis Tallent Poindexter, and his sister, Catherine Draper. Fred is survived by his sister Sarah Pickel of Smyrna, TN, sister Frances Herndon (Wayne) of Chester, VA, brother-in-law Dennis Draper of Mt. Olive, NC, and six nieces and nephews: Elizabeth Gaines (Bill), Mark Pickel (Christie), Wayne Herndon, Jr. (Jennifer), Howard Draper (Kristinia), Julanne Mann (Scott), and Robert Draper (Tracey). Fred happily lived his adult life among friends and staff of Person County Group Homes in Roxboro, NC. Famous for his smile, Fred considered the entire community to be close personal friends. He dearly loved his church family at Roxboro Baptist Church and was an accomplished horseman through the equestrian program of Special Olympics North Carolina. A graveside service celebrating his life will be held 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 4, 2015 at Sunset Memory Gardens in Mint Hill, NC officiated by Rev. Elizabeth Gaines and Rev. Dr. Dennis Draper.
