Frances Marie Upchurch Johnson

Frances was born on March 1, 1923 in Harnett County, NC. She was the daughter of the late Benjamin Upchurch and Lela Alvis Parker Upchurch. Her husband, Gerald Johnson and son-in-law James David Luther, also preceded her in death.

Frances was a U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran serving during WWII in the U.S. Cadet Nurses Corps. She was a registered nurse for over 45 years prior to retiring.

She loved her family, her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, and was a great friend to many people. There was also a special place in her heart for her beloved dog, Lily.

Frances was also a member of Buies Creek First Baptist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Anna Marie Luther, of Liberty, NC and Susan Gail Godwin, of Dunn, NC; a son, David Gerald Johnson (wife Lisa) of Erwin, NC; five grandchildren, James Michael Luther (wife Cathy), Kevin Gerald Luther (Susan Daniels), Dr. Andrew Johnson Godwin (wife Christina), David Gerald Johnson II, Steven Gale Godwin (Bethany); seven great-grandchildren, Ashley, Dorothy, Rori, Blake, Stella, Callie Nicole, and Ethan; and one great-great-grandson Bryson Adkins.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 25, 2023 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Buies Creek First Baptist Church.

A Funeral Service for Frances Johnson will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Buies Creek First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Greg Lamb officiating. A private burial will follow at Buies Creek Cemetery.
