Mrs.White, the daughter of the late Wesley Puett and Laura Wacaster Draughon, was born on January 8, 1924 at the family home place in Sampson County.
Upon graduating from high school, Alice entered the School of Nursing at Hamlet Hospital, in Hamlet, North Carolina. She was also affiliated with the Presbyterian Hospital of Charlotte, and Babies Hospital of Wrightsville Sound. She graduated in 1945 and married Captain Glen Thomas White, who preceded her in death in 1954. There were two children born unto this union. In the late 1940's Mrs.White and her husband started the first bakery in Dunn which at that time was called the Dunn-Rite Bakery. Mrs. White later married Floyd Godwin of Media, Pennsylvania, who also preceded her in death in 1969. Alice worked as a registered nurse in Decatur, Illinois and Media, Pennsylvania. She later retired in 1997 after serving thirty years as a post-operative nurse at Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital, in Dunn.
Mrs. White was also preceded in death by her sisters Grace Draughon Daniels of Wingate and Ada Draughon Thomas of Monroe and brother Johnson P. Draughon of Dunn.
Mrs. White is survived by a daughter, Barbara White Byrd and son-in-law Walter Cooper Byrd of Dunn; a daughter Martha White Adcox of Pittsboro; a grandson James Tadd Adcox and wife Helenmary Sheridan of Champagne Urbana, Illinois. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Alice Draughon White will be conducted at the Cromartie-Miller Funeral Home on Sunday, April 8, 2018 at 3:00 PM with the Rev. Howard Dudley officiating. You are cordially invited to a time of visitation one hour prior to the funeral service in the chapel of the Cromartie-Miller Funeral Home. Mrs. Alice Draughon White will be laid to rest at the Greenwood Cemetery with John Daniels, Chris Gaskill, Paul Gaskill, Kyle Gaskill, Phil Byrd and Ronald Draughon serving as pallbearers.
