John W. Moody of Safety Harbor, Florida, was born on April 12, 1937 in New York City. John or “Jay” as he would later be known, grew up in Malverne, New York.He entered the service after college in 1959. He was a Vietnam Veteran and served in the Army where he retired in 1979 as a Lieutenant Colonel. While in the Army John served for 20 years as a Special Forces officer. He earned the Silver Star while serving in Vietnam. John retired from the Army with various other awards and numerous campaign ribbons. In his spare time, John enjoyed golf, boating and spending time with his family and friends. John was also an accomplished musician playing trombone with many local bands. John was preceded in death by his parents, John W Moody and Mary Louise Moody, his brother, James Moody and sister Mary Lou Guarneri. Survivors include his beloved wife of 55 years, Barbara; son, James (Marisol) Moody, daughters, Cathy (Jay) Polt; Joan (Mark) Hollifield; Lou Anne (Chris) Kapkovic; 9 grandchildren; brothers, Thomas and Matthew Moody; sisters, Kathleen Jantzen and Diane Newman. A celebration of life is planned for Sunday, July 20, 2014 at 3:00-5:00 pm at Moss Feaster Funeral Home, 1320 Main Street, Dunedin, Florida. The family requests in lieu if flowers to please make donations to your favorite charity.
