Don was our next door neighbour in Red Bay for many years. There are so many memories.
Listening to the banter and laughter when Don & Helen joined my parents for an evening of cards.
The hours we spent watching him clean the many fish he caught.
The stories and songs shared around the bonfire pit.
The sound of the horseshoes as they hit the stakes or plopped in the sandpit and looking for those that rolled wide of the mark into the long grass.
Discovering that my visiting brother-in-law knew Don – they were fellow firefighters who were able to share a drink and catch-up on what was happening after Don retired.
Red Bay was a place Don loved and he always enjoyed the evening sunset at the dock.
I want to extend my deepest sympathy to his family and am sorry not to have been able to attend the visitation and service.  I will enjoy the next sunset in his memory.

I grew at the cottage next door to Don’s cottage in Red Bay.  I have many memories of Don.  As a child I used to watch him clean fish and he always welcomed the company.  We enjoyed many fish fries’ courtesy of Don.  He used to pop his head into the front window of our cottage and stop in for a chat to catch up.  He and Helen were good friends with my parents, and they used to play cards and laugh as we tried to sleep.  He put up with the large crowd that was usually present at our cottage and was always there to lend a helping hand.

Don was a great neighbour and good friend to my family.  I want to express my condolences to his family during this sad time.  I was very sorry to have not been present at the funeral to share in remembering his life.

As a family who built our cottage in Red Bay beside the lot that would be Don and Helen's cottage, we have so many memories of Don. He was a valued friend of the Liningtons and Pudryckis and every summer many card games would be played with gales of laughter. When Don built his garage, he had a dance for the neighbourhood on the newly poured concrete floor and frequently our families would gather for bonfires out in his back yard. We remember Don fondly and usually referred to him for his knowledge of the area. Over the years he had several boats and as kids, we would watch him clean the fish he had caught and then as he went from boats to a golf cart, we would join him for nightly sunsets. Don Young was a huge part of our time in Red Bay and we missed him when he sold the cottage.
We are most disappointed to have missed his funeral and visitation but want to extend our thoughts to the family.

Don Young was a fine example of a good man. He lived a life of service. He was a firefighter, a Mason, and a county councillor for Red Bay. And Don took care of my mom. Whether it was small jobs or adventurous travels. Mom and Don came out to the Stampede and saw the Rocky Mountains. They went to Branson and Florida. They spent lots of time at Red Bay. I appreciate the difference Don made in our family’s lives, and will look back with fond memories.

The Hanna family sends sincere condolences to Don Young’s family, on his death. We have many happy memories of times spent in Red Bay and in Dundas, with Don and Marion McIsaac.

On behalf of the Council of the Town of South Bruce Peninsula, we offer our sincere condolences as we hear of the passing of Mr. Young.  It is our understanding that he served on the former Albemarle Council sometime in the early 1990's.  We will be observing a moment of silence at our next Council meeting to honour Mr. Young.

Where to begin?  
So many memories of good times spent with Don and Helen at Red Bay as I was in my growing up years.  Later, more good memories as we would visit with Don at both Red Bay and Hamilton.  Don was always so very welcoming and a Great cook too!  Boat rides, campfires, Euchre, Rummy card games, visiting with Don's friends and neighbors, going into Wiarton (best small town in Ontario).  Later, spending time with Don and his sister Bev and nieces Dale and Lynda in Hamilton as we would often go out to dinner and a few times to the Niagra Falls casino.  Don, always so Welcoming.  I would often mention to him that he was a Fighter!  And he was.  A Fire Fighter!   He had his health issues in late years, but Always handled them through strength of attitude!
A life well lived. Memories to cherish.  Thank you Don!  For always being so Welcoming and of Good Nature!  Thank you Don!  For being a good friend to me and my late parents since 1951 (when you and Helen shared a rental with them on George Street).  Rest in Peace!   Your friend, Brian
