I am sorry to hear of Paul's passing.  I first met him when i moved to Sault Ste. Marie in 1982 (he was in my choir at Central United Church) and we renewed friendships when I moved to Ottawa in 1999.  Always a kind, gentle man with a wealth of knowledge.  He will be missed.

My sympathies to Paul's family on the passing of a truly genuine, interesting and committed individual.  My fondest memory of Paul is the night, long ago,  that he kindly invited my husband, I and my mother over to his place for dinner and to view the amazing photos of his travels.  He was warm, generous and truly funny and I will remember that evening as long as I live.

I first met Paul when he attended a presentation which I made while in private practice with the Brownlee Fryett lawfirm in Edmonton back in the late 1980s. He was in the City attending some EC matters and dropped in on the presentation quite 'out of the blue'. That was the beginning of a long and treasured friendship. In later years, while working with DOJ and then the PPSC I found Paul to be both a valued colleague and friend. My fondest memory is when he came to visit our family on our ranch East of Edmonton one evening - I recall that it had been a bitterly cold and windy day, but he insisted on sitting out with our kids enjoying a bonfire and cooking hotdogs and marshmallows! He did not mind at all that our picnic table was actually the bucket on the front end loader of our tractor! Our young kids adored him. Paul will be missed by the many whose lives he touched.

My deepest sympathy to Paul's family on the passing of this truley gentle man.  As a former Wildlife Officer and Director, I had the pleasure of working with Paul and benefited from his thoughtful insight. He was a strong supporter of our enforcement team, and a true believer in environmental protection. May He carry you up on eagles wings !

I met Paul at an environmental lawyers in Government Conference many, many years ago and would bump into him occasionally at various legal conferences in subsequent years.  On occasion over the years I would call Paul to discuss various issues with him.  Paul was always willing to share his time and knowledge on a professional level and was also engaging in a genuine and friendly manner on a personal level.  I was saddened to hear of his passing.  My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Paul was an active and influential member of the Canadian International Council (formerly the Canadian Institute of International Affairs). He was a  member of the executive of, I believe, both Edmonton and National Capital (Ottawa) Branches. He was also a frequent participant in Couchiching Conferences. His enthusiasm for international affairs was evident and he always managed to put his points across tactfully and effectively. He was a charming and interesting person and I am glad to have been able to call him a friend.

I am saddened to hear of Paul's passing.  As a retired Wildlife Enforcement Officer I had the pleasure of working with Paul.  He was always thoughtful, knowledgeable and above all a true gentleman.  My sympathies to his family and those closest to him.

I worked with Paul when he was with DOE Enforcement division and then again when he came to join us at DOE Legal Services for many years.  Over those many years, Paul, Peter Lamont, Linda Tingley and I would discuss with great humour the many challenges of enforcing environmental laws in Canada. Paul was a true gentleman and a gentle and courteous soul. He will be missed by the many people who loved and cared for him.  Honourable David G. Near, J.A.

While heading the Environment Legal Services Unit,  Paul was a valued lawyer on the  Legal Services team. I could always trust his advice on all matters criminal. But more than that, Paul was one of the most social and friendly people I have ever met.  His social circle was so large that when I asked him to find a special speaker for the Federal - Provincial Environment Lawyers Conference that we were hosting, he arranged, no less, than for the attendance of David Suzuki! What a feather in our cap that was - but that was also Paul. I remember him with great fondness and respect.  Having lost close family members, I understand the great loss that this must be for the people who loved him.  My heart and sympathy go out to all of you.

My deepest sympathy to Paul's family and closest friends.  I had the opportunity to work with Paul in my initial years at ECCC.  He was always ready to listen, to work towards a solution and to share his stories, his ideas and his smile.

I worked with Paul at Environment Canada where he was a valued legal advisor to the Enforcement section.  So sorry for your loss.

I worked with Paul both on the Board of Directors of Somerset West Community Health Centre and at Environment Canada Legal Services.  He was always cheerful, helpful and committed to his work.  He was unfailingly courteous to others in his dealings with them.  I will remember him with fondness.

Our deepest condolences on the passing of our great friend Paul. He was always a great listener and conversationalist who possessed amazing knowledge and experience on any thinkable subject. He was always available to provide advice or help without question. We reflect fondly on Paul Gavrel and offer sympathy today.
