Paul passed away peacefully at the Ottawa General Hospital on June 29, 2017. He leaves behind George Gavrel, Marilyn Gavrel, Jessica Savage (Dustin), Stephanie Savage (Chad) and a large network of friends from many walks of life, who cherished and respected him for being a loyal, kind, intelligent, trusted and principled friend and colleague. Paul made a multitude of friends through his world travels. Many of his friends’ children called him “Uncle Paul”. Paul was born in Shanghai, China. He was educated at the University of Winnipeg (BA), University of Manitoba (Masters of Social Work) and University of Toronto (LLB). He practiced law in the private and public sectors, from 1976 - 2012, in Timmins, Sault Ste. Marie, Edmonton and Ottawa. He had a long and distinguished career at the Government of Canada, Department of Justice Environment Legal Services. He contributed to his community by volunteering his time and expertise to many charities and non-governmental organizations. The family wishes to thank all who gave Paul support during his last days, especially Andre. Friends are invited to join the family at the Woodland Cemetery, Burlington, section 9 at 10:30am on Saturday, July 8th. A memorial service will be held at the Marlatt Funeral Home “Swackhamer Chapel”, 195 King Street West, Dundas on Saturday, July 8th at 11:30am. A reception will follow in the funeral home.
