Suddenly and unexpectedly Nick passed away in the early morning hours of September 1st, 2012, at his home in Dundas, Ontario, at the age of 81. He was born on March 18, 1931, the son of Veneranda (DiFrancesco) and Vincenzo Monti, who immigrated to Canada from Italy and made their home in Hamilton, a city Nick loved and cherished and spent most of his life in. A practicing lawyer for many years, and an entrepreneur in later life, Nick traveled the world and enjoyed a rich life together with Jill, the love of his life. In his youth he loved the sport of rowing, and later horse racing became a great passion. He was also a talented musician, playing his accordion from an early age, and performing professionally as a solo act and in bands throughout the area. His knowledge of politics and world affairs always led to great conversations, and his stories about growing up in the Burlington Street and Sherman Avenue neighbourhood will be with us forever. We will miss his good advice and insight into all situations, the evenings of story telling around the kitchen table, his sense of humour, his calm and kind presence and his willingness to help anyone. Nick shared a love of preparing good food with Jill and they spent plenty of time in the kitchen together, with his biscottis and fruit cutting technique being especially appreciated. He will be greatly missed by his life partner of 50 years, Gilberte (Jill) Lanois, and her children Bob with life partner Margot, Daniel, Ron (deceased) and Jocelyne; by sister Lorraine (Monti) and Larry Baatz with their children Andrea and Anthony, and sisters Mary (deceased) and Jeannette and their families. Nick would have wanted to thank his good friends, the four Angels Dorelle, Judy, Grace and Joan, for magically appearing whenever they were needed. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements entrusted to Marlatt Funeral Home in Dundas, and Nick will be laid to rest at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery in Burlington. At Nick's request, the family will say goodbye to him in a private ceremony, and in lieu of flowers, those who wish to express their condolences may do so by sending a card or signing the Guest Book below.
In honour of Nick, please be guided by his favourite quote:
"Do something nice for someone else".
