Passed away peacefully in his sleep, on February 14, 2013 surrounded by loved ones at St. Joseph’s Villa, at the age of 68, after a prolonged illness. Beloved husband of Ursula (nee Trmal) and adored father of Holly, Jamie (Beth) and Emily (Mark Munzar), with whom he shared his love of travel, sports, history, books and music, and who all benefitted from his enthusiasm, support and patience. Jim was also proud to be “Gramps” to Wyatt, Isabelle, Evelyn, Josephine and Veronica.
He was a cherished brother and brother-in-law to Kathy Williamson (Larry), Charlie Bennett, Brigitte Diggins and Rainer Trmal (Linda), a beloved uncle to Christopher, Amanda, Alexandra, David, Dawn, Douglas, Colin, Adam and Rachel, and a very special friend to Frank and Suzanne Kovacs. He was pre-deceased by his loving mother Heather Crews, his step-father Bert Crews, father Jim Bennett Sr, and step-mother Mary Bennett.
Jim had a life-long passion for politics and was a very proud representative of Canada’s small business community during his 25 year career with the Canadian Federation of Independent Business. Jim’s family and friends will miss his optimism, gentle nature, his wit, generosity and even his terrible jokes.
The family would like to extend its gratitude to all the staff at St Joseph’s Villa’s Pine Grove, who provided such compassionate care in Jim’s last days.
Friends will be received at MARLATT FUNERAL HOME “SWACKHAMER CHAPEL” at 195 King Street West in Dundas on Tuesday, February 19th from 6-9pm. A funeral service will be held at 11am on Wednesday, February 20th in the Funeral Home Chapel.
Donations to the Parkinson’s Society or to the St. Joseph’s Villa Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
